Templates

Templates are the core of reusable email content in Relay. Instead of building your emails from scratch every time, Templates let you design, save, and reuse polished email layouts keeping your communications consistent and your workflow fast.

Whether you're creating a template from scratch, importing a design from an external tool, or simply making a quick edit, the Templates section is your central hub for all reusable email content.

Creating a Template

To create a new template from scratch:

  1. Navigate to Templates in the left sidebar.
  2. Click New Template in the top-right corner.
  3. Give your template a name and click Create.
  4. Use the built-in editor to design your email — add text blocks, images, buttons, dividers, and more.
  5. When you're happy with the design, click Save.

Your template will now appear in the Templates list and will be available to use across campaigns and automations.

Importing a Template via HTML

Importing a Template via HTML

If you've already built a design in a tool like Stripo or ActiveCampaign, you can bring it into Relay using the Import HTML feature — no need to rebuild from scratch.

How to Import

  1. Navigate to Templates and click Import HTML.
  2. Paste in the HTML & CSS code from your external tool and click Import..
  3. Give the template a name and click Save.
  4. Relay will load the design into the editor, where you can review and make any final adjustments.

Exporting HTML from ActiveCampaign

  1. In ActiveCampaign, open the email template you want to export.
  2. Navigate to the HTML or Source view of the editor.
  3. Select all and copy the full HTML & CSS
  4. Paste it into Relay's Import HTML & CSS dialog.

Tip: Before importing, make sure any images in your template are hosted on a publicly accessible URL. Images that reference local files or private storage may not render correctly after import.

Editing & Managing Templates

Editing a Template

  1. From the Templates list, click the template you want to edit.
  2. The editor will open with your existing design loaded.
  3. Make your changes, then click Save to update the template.

Note: Editing a template does not automatically update any campaigns or automations that are already using it. Changes apply going forward when the template is selected for new sends.

Renaming a Template

  1. Hover over the template in the list to reveal the options menu (⋯).
  2. Click Rename, enter a new name, and confirm.

Duplicating a Template

If you want to create a variation without modifying the original:

  1. Hover over the template and click on the 2 boxes to create a copy.
  2. Name the new copy and update template.
  3. A copy will appear in your list, which you can then edit independently.

Deleting a Template

  1. Hover over the template and click the trash can icon.
  2. Select Delete and confirm when prompted.

Warning: Deleting a template is permanent and cannot be undone. Make sure the template isn't actively being used in any campaigns or automations before deleting it.
